    Hi all,

My dad gave me a CO.com gift cert for Christmas this week, which was quite generous. I've used these in the past, all without issue. However, one of the T&C's has me worried (perhaps it's just the "old" wording being used, but I hate fine print sticky points) - the fact that I can only use this cert to purchase flights operated by Continental (i.e. not United). With some much cross-fleeting and mixing of UA & CO metal on all the flights I take now, I feel like this has the potential to be disastrous if they follow the letter of the law here.

    Am I being paranoid?

    Full T&C's:
    Terms and conditions:
    • Redeemable only on continental.com. Not valid for reservations ticketed via Continental airport ticket office or city ticket office.
    • A minimum of 25.00 USD and a maximum of 10,000.00 USD
    • Only forms of payment with billing addresses in the United States and its territories are eligible
    • Certificates purchased Aug. 20, 2010 or later are valid for five years from the date the certificate is purchased. Certificates purchased prior to Aug. 20, 2010 are valid for one year from the date certificate was originally issued.
    • If the full amount of the certificate is not used for a transaction, you can use the balance towards the purchase of another ticket within the original validity period
    • The certificate will be null and void if its remaining value is less than 1.00 USD
    • Only valid for air travel purchases, including ticket, taxes and surcharges
    • Non-refundable
    • Fully transferable until redeemed
    • Not valid in conjunction with any other programs (example OnePass Reward redemption)
    • Valid with any fare types (e.g. continental.com Specials, or eCertificate redemptions)
    • Cannot be used in conjunction with an Electronic Travel Certificate
    • Mileage accrual is allowed in conjunction with applicable fare rules for the ticket being purchased
    • Ticket purchased is eligible for any OnePass continental.com booking bonus applicable to the ticket at the time of purchase.
    • Only one Gift Certificate may be used per transaction for the purchase of airline tickets.
    • The Gift Certificate will be applied to the total price of the airline tickets in any one transaction.
    • Valid for use on flights operated by Continental Airlines, Continental Micronesia, Continental Express and Continental Connection only.

I would not worry since United flights are included in the Gift Certificates from my prior experiences.

If push comes to shove and you live in California, gift certificates here can never expire, so you wait for full integration to use it.

As much as my wife wishes that were the case, we live in Texas, so no such luck. I'm just glad that the cert doesn't expire after just 1 year like the old ones did.

I got a gift certificate as well, tried to book on continental.com which showed united flights as well, i added the cert and kept getting error - error message was not intuitive so spent 40 mins on the phone waiting for web team to answer and it took the CSA 2 mins to tell me "You cannot use continental gift certs to book united flights". Wish they would've shown this error message on the website and saved me 40 mins :(

Well that is a horrible datapoint to have... On Sunday don't they all become "United?" Perhaps I'll just wait it out...
