If aircraft will be used on routes where hot meals persist or are reinstated -- do any IAH-Central America flights still have meals? -- the weight of ovens might be ignored when looking at "operational efficiencies" ...

The article is too vague. Are burgers being eliminated completely? Or is it just in Y? Are UA's ovens in F good enough to keep serving them during lunch?

I think it'll just be in Y, as United never bothered to re-install ovens in Y on the ex-TED aircraft.

Good. I still remember my first burger fondly. :)

The Angus cheeseburger is literally the only thing (OK, the cheese plate too) that made CO's switch to BoB bearable for me.

Most Central/South America business markets with 737 service still have complimentary hot meals in Y (sandwiches, no casseroles) but we don't know what the merged meal service guidelines will be. Right now, it is still 'old CO' service levels to Latin America, which only have F4S to beach or tourist-oriented markets.

    Say it ain't so Joe!
Damn, I really-really wanted to try this when the merger was completed. My wife told me about this last year when she had a trip in F on CO and I was sooooo jealous.
You have no idea after working in Europe for a long time how much I would appreciate a greasy cheesebuger and fries coming home. I would take that over anything I have ever had in C/F on UA.
Life is just not fair sometimes :(

I don't know how true that is. From what I recall the cheeseburger had been dropped from the BOB menu and this month I noticed it was back in there.

Hi Everyone, the story in the Chicago Tribune, and other media that picked up on the story, are incorrect when it comes to the popular cheeseburger. The cheeseburger, a customer favorite, will indeed survive as an option on flights that have ovens for them. Early next year, it will also be offered in the front cabin on all United aircraft (since they all have ovens up front). On aircraft where we don’t have ovens, a cold sandwich will be offered in its place.

Someone ought to notify McDonalds or Burger King of the massive untapped market opportunity in Europe :)

The truth here in Switzerland is they don't allow any import of American beef, just Swiss beef is allowed (this includes Bugerking and McD's). The good news is this beef has no DNA altered/Chemical/whatever added to the beef (much better for you). The bad news, just doesn't have the same great taste of American beef :p

Anyways, looks like with UA Insider's comment I still have a chance to have a American greasy cheesbuger on the way back to the US :D

And presumably they also don't cover it with that product of the American petroleum industry called "American Cheese"... ;)

Perhaps in light of changing market conditions, perhaps United, in all its wisdom, could bother to reinstall the ovens?

Actually, it never dropped off the menu. It has been there all along.

Thanks Shannon! That's a much more reasonable solution than dropping hot food for sale entirely. It is something that set CO apart from the competition when it comes to food for sale in the coach cabin, since none of the other big legacies sell anything except cold food. It makes sense to keep the ovens and keep the hot items on those flights.

+1, I purchased one Friday. Our upgraded 777 LAX - IAD lunch flight was delayed 2hrs. We would miss our BOS connection (LAX-IAD-BOS) so we were rebooked on a connection through Denver (LAX-DEN-BOS) in coach. :-(

I purchased the Angus Cheeseburger and the Noodles. My noodles container was half full. I was in coach about a year ago and my noodles container was full. The Angus Cheeseburger was delicious.

I also definitely enjoy the cheeseburger when traveling up front on CO.

Shanon, how about putting those ovens back?. Have you had the cold sandwich? These plans (with no ovens) can't be expected to fly EWR-LAX/SFO/SNA/SEA/PDX.
