I'm trying to book a Continental award for a friend and want to make sure I understand the change fees correctly. According to continental.com change fees are "waived for reward changes 21 days or more in advance, as long as there is no change to the origin and destination."

Does this mean if I'm going AAA-CCC-BBB on 1/1 I can change to go AAA-XXX-BBB on 2/2 for no fee?
Or is it like United where I have to keep the entire routing the same?

You can absolutely change the connecting city without fee so long as the new travel date is 21+ days out from the date the change is requested. You do not need to keep the exact same routing like UA requires.

This all may change on June 15 as the award charts align but hard to know for sure.

Don't forget that award availability still has to be available at the lower Saver Rate, assuming that's what you booked.
