Just did a "contact us for free nights" to book a free night in Nov for a near sold out weekend for all SPG properties in the area. It cost an extra 1,500 points for a slightly upgraded room which was completely worth it compared to $450-699 cash rates for the only two remotely nearby SPG properties that had rooms. Last time I did this they offered a suite for double points so my expectations were low, but I'm am pleasantly surprised!
