Looking at booking 2 separate flights (both domestic) into and out of BKK. Airlines are Bangkok Air and Thai. Can anyone suggest the minimum connection time needed?

60 minutes should be ample time to connect between domestic flights at BKK ... I believe the official IATA time for domestic TG to TG is 30 minutes, but because you are connecting PG to TG, I'd give it some padding. No time to get that full body massage at the TG first class lounge though ;)

If you will be collecting and re-checking bags make sure to account for the minimum bag drop cut-off times. Also consider minimum check-in times at the counter and the ability to get a BP issued.

THis will be heavily dependent upon which airport you're flying out of. Unfortunately it's not uniform as TG has caretaker DD staff fully operating some of their stations and these nitwits don't even know how to interline bags. I believe PG's cutoff for domestic checkin is 30min at BKK... but you can use PG web checkin for domestic flights so long as they don't have intentions to ask you for your booking credit card (this can be mitigated by presenting yourself and card at any PG airport counter or in town office prior to flight date).

If you're flying out of a larger domestic airport, and therefor more likely to check bags through, figure 60 is plenty of time. If you're flying out of a smaller dom airport, with the possibility that you might have to grab bags and recheck them with PG, then I'd suggest padding that somewhat.
