There were some flight schedule changes on my itinerary and now I only have about 1.5 hours to connect. Will arrive on Air Canada Jazz and I remember from my past trip via YYZ about a year ago it is a long walk to get to international flights. Will that connection time be sufficient to clear passport control and to make my international flight?

Passport control could be a problem if there are other international flights landing just prior to yours. Perhaps YYZ website would let you find out.

Will having a NEXUS card be helpful?

If it lets you bypass the general lines, then definitely! I don't have one, so no personal experience.

It will be VERY helpful. 1.5 hours should be plenty of time unless your inbound flight experiences a lengthy delay.

So once I land in Toronto T1, I should proceed to Canadian passport control leading to T1 international departures where I can use Nexus?

Actually you won't have any problems as long as you're reasonably on time. Yes, your flight will dock at the rather inconvenient Transborder RJ/Dash8 pier and you'll have a lengthy walk (about 10-miniutes) to the main terminal junction where the escalators down to the Customs Hall are located. However, as you are heading back out of Canada, you will see several immigration booths to the left of where those escalators are. You will go to one of the officers manning/womanning these desks and they will do a cursory document check, then direct you down the pier to the International departures "hammerhead". No need to collect your checked bags or go through another security screening. You should be off the plane and in the departure hall within 20-minutes. There's seldom a line up at this customs station. (Signs will also direct you, but it will be easy to spot.) No need for NEXUS...in fact there are no NEXUS kiosks there because you are not really entering Canada.

Not US to International as OP never goes into the main customs hall.

Thanks for the detailed instructions. Now let's hope there are no delays.
