Congress Says No With FCC Set to Go on In-Flight Calls

Federal Communications Commission Chairman Tom Wheeler isn’t backing down on letting U.S. airline passengers make phone calls even as members of Congress and members of the public say, “No.”

The agency tomorrow is set to take a preliminary vote on ending its voice-calling ban after commissioners return from a House hearing whose leader said he’ll make Wheeler’s move a “spirited topic of discussion.”

Not too surprising since Wheeler is a former lobbyist for the wireless industry.

I was kind of thinking about this a bit and wonder: What authority does the FCC have over cellphones on airplanes? Isn't this really an FAA issue?

    All of it.
    Nope.

Except that's not at all what is happening. But no worries about making up incendiary headlines and publishing them to generate readership, right??
