Why can't we get the rack rates without ringing the properties directly.

The time of the Internet is here make life easier :) post the onight rack rate on line you, don't think your competition hasn't rung around to find out.

Thanks for the suggestion. The properties control what rates you see online. If a property wanted to display the RACK rate, I'm sure it would be possible for them to do so, but they would probably want to display a rate that someone is actually going to book.

You might try using Chat to ask what the RACK rate is at a given property. It would certainly be less hassle and less expensive than calling a property directly.

Wow - where did that come from? Looks very useful and wondering if whoever created that has other handy things.

no clue ... i found the link somewhere on MP in the past & bookmarked it.

The rate lookup tool is prett good; the award search portion I think there are other sites that are better. (awardspy & WA tools)

I booked rack this week for a last minute stay w/72 hr guarantee. Had to use my ambassador to compare options. Online in the rate display would be nice.

The reason I asked about rack rates is that every hotel sets theres for the year, they don't change it..this is in regards to the 1000 points and 50% off in some hotels it is cheaper than the best available rate... The link provided rack rate goes up and down so it is not the true rack rate of said hotels. Unfortunately. Thanks for the suggestion.

Thanks for the input, Mike, but we are back to what the properties want to display as available rates. Plus, if you are using the 72-hour Platinum-forced availability, you have to call in anyway. I'm not sure what advantage you would have if a property is completely sold out and not displaying any rates, but my suggestion remains the same...either call in or use the chat function at spg.com.

Then again, there's that unofficial tool provided by edekba. Hopefully, it gives folks the correct RACK rate information.

No worries. If you use the chat function, they will even be glad to check on whether the SPG50 rate is available for a given date at a given property.

In my case it was that there were multiple properties all sold out, and since the rack rates aren't displayed, the initial decision on "who to call" would be those with lower rack rates vs. higher. I ended up staying at the Sheraton Metairie @ $239 vs something in downtown NOLA (W, perhaps?) at over $400. Were I doing this on my own, being able to browse rack rates would help me figure out where to stop calling.

I'm still puzzled how, if a property is sold out, how you are going to check any rate, much less RACK. When a property is sold out, no rates whatsoever display. That's kind of how you become aware that they're sold out.

Checking any date range other than the one you are actually trying to book presumes that the RACK rate is static. It is not. The RACK rate can fluctuate seasonally.

With the 72-hour guarantee, there's never really any such thing as sold out. That's when it becomes convenient to be able to compare... when there are no more rooms bookable and you're going to be stuck paying the rack rate.

Don't worry, though. Very few hotels disclose this on their booking engine, so I don't consider it a fault with Starwood's. It's just a 'nice-to-have.'
