Effective February 13, 2012 we will discontinue our OnePass partnership with Virgin Atlantic. Mileage accrual benefits are valid for travel through February 13, 2012. Please refer to the Mileage Credit Request Form for information regarding obtaining missing mileage credit. OnePass reward reservations for travel on Virgin Atlantic must be confirmed and ticketed by February 13, 2012, and they are valid one year from the date ticketed.

That's too bad -- always a good use of miles on VS Upper Class

Sad to see them go, although I had somewhat mixed feelings about VS Upper Class.

This is bad, these flights essentially doubled access into and out of LHR.

A harbinger of VS entry to SkyTeam? It seems almost a foregone conclusion that VS will go that way, and rumors persist that SQ is headed toward SkyTeam as well.

It seems that *A is not terribly committed to the LHR market outside of O&D to Star strongholds, with BD headed to oneworld and the probability that VS will be joining the AF/KL/DL/AZ transatlantic joint venture.

Agreed. I'm just glad that I have a VS award flight coming up so I can try out Upper Class before it's no longer available.

I'm not so sure that it is a harbinger of VS entry to SkyTeam. Maybe its really just a OP/MP rationalization move. I imagine that if VS does enter an alliance that it would be a situation similar to when JAL was considering switching alliances and each alliance was working to woo JAL.

As for SQ, it wouldn't surprise me, but would be a bummer. *A does have so many strong Asia partners.

Kind of a tough situation given that there are really only two big LHR players and one of them isn't in an alliance. Obviously if VS joins ST it leaves * without a dance partner.

Not necessarily, there are some good reasons why one or both sides would want to shitcan the relationship. One reason that has nothing to do with alliance is the fact that VS levies substantial fuel surcharges on its metal for its own members, and UACO levies none on any airline within its programs -- if VS noticed significant redemptions coming from OnePass, this becomes problematic in their eyes because they're losing out on $$$ they'd otherwise collect if the redemption was done directly through VS.

Unfortunately, this sounds right. The value of CO/UA miles has gone down a bit.

Wow, this would be wonderful for SkyTeam if it happens. I'm almost surprised that DL and AF would allow such competition within their alliance.

SkyTeam is extremely weak at LHR. Access to the market on a real level would be tempting to any alliance.

I'm not surprised to see UACO announce this termination with VS... I spoke to an agent in LAS last night about it.

ditto on the disappointment with VS leaving. I was looking at some of COs rewards to Europe and saw a lot of Virgin operated flights. So tempted to book, now its too late. Fingers crossed that Virgin decides to join Star and I will get the opportunity to fly them.

I have not heard any SQ to Skyteam rumors, but I could see them jumping ship as they would not have to offer F awards for partners.

This is no surprise at all, other than the very short notice timing. VS was a partner for CO back when CO couldn't get into LHR. Now that CO can - and more importantly, now that the combined UA as MANY daily flights to LHR - the partnership is not particularly valuable on either side at the business level.

As for a move to SkyTeam, maybe or maybe not, but I doubt this has anything to do with that decision.

That it was a shame because she liked VS and that there was a lot of CO/VS customers out of LAS that'd travel through EWR to LHR.

I don't think it's too late yet...I believe you have until February 13th to book an award, and a year from that date to fly it.
