    Dear MilePoint Community:

As you are making your future travel plans, we wanted to let you know that we will be announcing several updates to Club Carlson that will be effective March 15, 2014. Our intent is to provide even greater value to our members while creating better alignment with other hotel programs. You can see all the details at clubcarlson.com/programupdate, but I wanted to give you the headlines:

Members will now have a choice of room types for redemption, in addition to standard rooms. Hotel redemption categories will be updated, and a new tier added, as the Carlson Rezidor Hotel Group will soon be rolling out an expertly curated collection of luxury hotels, under the Quorvus Collection.

Our members will continue to earn 20 points per dollar spent, with Award Nights still starting at 9,000 Gold Points. Beginning March 15, the rate at which Elite members earn bonus points will change to 15% for Silver and 35% for Gold. Concierge members will continue to receive rich rewards that include a 75% earning bonus. Members will now receive online booking bonuses on a promotional basis.

Redeemed Award Nights will now be combined with qualifying paid nights to count toward Elite Status. And our members can now earn points on food and beverage purchases during Award Night stays. We have also added new retail gift card partners to the already extensive list with redemption starting at 7,000 points.

Since we launched Club Carlson nearly 3 years ago, we have always strived to provide great experiences and industry-leading value to our members. Given our growth, we feel this has been recognized and we want to thank you for your business.

We look forward to your sharing ideas and feedback as we continue to evolve the program. And the next time you travel, we hope to have the opportunity of serving you at one of our more than 1,000 participating Radisson Blu®, Radisson®, Park Plaza®, Park Inn® by Radisson, and Country Inns & Suites By CarlsonSM hotels worldwide.

    With warm regards,

    Rachael Marret

reposting some of my suggestions from other threads on MP, Rachael, on my personal wishlist :

    1) increase your footprint in Asia (where i'm based), would be happy to stay more in Club Carlson hotels if there were more...
    2) please, let us have a Club Carlson credit card too :p

Looks like quite a few properties are moving up a category. Plus the new Cat 7 (which is a 40% increase). And no more online booking bonus.:(

Anybody else think this is a bit confusing:

"As of March 15, 2014, the hotels listed below will move to a new Hotel Category, resulting in an increase or decrease in the number of points required to redeem an award night. The new categories apply to bookings made on or after May 1, 2014."

The March 15th date essentially is meaningless then?

IMHO, it's a devaluation. :( Plain and simple.

Yes. But it doesn't look too bad. YMMV, of course.

As long as the CC Visa - which I just got - is valid for second night free on the premium room options, I don't think the changes look horrible (except for the Category 7 development).

For any hotel going up a category, it's a significant devaluation, even with the free award night. Cat 2-3, for instance, is a whopping 86 percent devaluation, while Cat 4-5 or 5-6 are less severe. Overall, the program is still pretty good for credit card holders, but it has lost some of its luster.

Clarified (?) today: "As of March 15, 2014, the hotels listed below will move to a new Hotel Category, resulting in an increase or decrease in the number of points required to redeem an award night. The new categories apply to bookings made on or after March 15, 2014."

Thank you for posting this in advance and putting yourself on the firing line. I'm not clear if some of the current 75K redemptions for rooms above standard will be increasing also. This was not in the announcement but if a standard room is 70K at the highest tier then a 75K room for a business package or deluxe room at that property is almost the same price. In some cases the extra 1 or 2 meters of space (and maybe breakfast0 was not really worth the extra 25K points, in other cases it was a bargain.

If you're a Gold elite, does booking a 75k business class room at a Radisson Blu (thinking of the Paris ones) give you a chance at being upgraded to an even bigger/better room? Trying to weigh whether it's worth the extra points, if just for breakfast and a slightly larger size.

could Radisson consider bring back the 50,000 points per stay promotion like last year ? that was awesome, and really brought Radisson to my attention :)
