So I got an email this morning from SPG saying they are gifting Clear(tm) expedited screening to their golds and plats for six months. While this is great to see from a very proactive hotel chain, didn't this program exist a few years ago and die out? If not, has anyone had experience with them at DEN, SFO or MCO? Apparently they are expanding to DFW too. Curious how this works with Pre-check on the way...

It was a god-send at MCO. If you don't have status with an airline (at the airports they're serving), it gets you to the front of the security screening line which is a plus.

Is this supposed to be for all Golds and Plats or is it targeted toward those with mailing addresses or frequent stays near the Clear airports? I didn't receive the email.

Don't think I got this email either...I think Clear came back recently (remember reading about it earlier in the year), the website says that it works in SFO, DEN and MCO: http://clearme.com/where-it-works

I've seen it work at DEN while I waited in their elite line.

Thanks OP. I checked and see I did get the email which says "An exclusive offer for our Gold and Platinum members" and except for the CLEAR code for online registration doesn't appear to be targeted. Register by July 31 and first six months is free, then your credit card is automatically charged for the next year. $179 annually. Apparently this puts you to the head of the line, but website doesn't indicate PreChek bennies like leaving shoes/jackets on, liquids in, etc.

Not going to work for me, as whenever I travel to SFO, DEN (and soon it will be at DFW) I'm almost always already cleared and just transiting those locations behind security. PreChek is free, Global Entry $20 a year (or free to certain elites) which makes $179 for 3 random airports rather steep.

Just as an FYI, the email was sent to a select group of Gold and Platinum members who generally use routes serviced by Clear. If anyone is a U. S.-based Gold or Platinum and wants a code to redeem, but did not get the email, they can contact SPG via chat, social media or by email and a code will be given to them up until the offer ends.

It great if you live close to or fly through one of the current airport locations, otherwise it is worthless! I am not going to fly to one of these airports so I can have the face-to-face interview for clearance....but wait...that would mean more miles... :D

I had CLEAR a few years ago when they ceased operations. For the times that I used it, I was really happy with the process. It actually saved me missing a flight a couple of times. They were in a lot more markets before which made it convenient and I know they are adding more now. The grandfathered me with my remaining membership which does not start until I used the card or they open in my market. My question for now if how will CLEAR compete with TSA PreCheck?

Hmm, well my pre-check experience at LAS was nothing short of amazing (but they also generally have very competent TSA agents too), but I was also the only one in line. I'd much rather give up paper privacy (ssn, dob) than physical privacy, but maybe this is a public vs private question. Has anyone tried the new clear yet? $179 does sound a bit steep, but term 1 at sfo can also be a nightmare.

Either way, any sort of sorting by "savvyness"(precheck, clear or even those diamond/square/circle ski lane) shouldn't make the system worse for those of us on here.

Yes, PreCheck has been great. They expanded it at DFW to 3 terminals which makes it more accessible. I also fly to LA a lot and it is really convenient there. I especially like the separate PreCheck line there so you do not have to wait. DFW has not gotten that far yet. The TSA agents at LAX, DFW and LAS have all been really nice so no issues there.

I was a CLEAR member before it shut down and I'm SPG Gold now. Unfortunately I don't fly that much in and out of the three CLEAR airports but I still think I'll try it again, esp. since it is free
