I don't know why this never made the headlines at the time (February), and I don't know why it's only the Daily Mail, a London 'news' paper that reported it, but this Mr. Dovel had apparently been stealing iPads (at least eight) from passenger's luggage in the TSA's baggage 'resolution' room at DFW for quite some time.

Here's a nice picture of him, courtesy of my fellow Twitter user @policeleak...

He kind of reminds me of Hair Bear, from Help! It's the Hair Bear Bunch! (sorry, I used to spend a lot of time glued to BBC1 between 4:30 and 5:45PM every weeknight, so I know my mid-seventies cartoons).

Why would you ever put your iPad in a checked bag?!?

Presumably to avoid the thieves at the checkpoint.

Agree it's dumb on several levels.

At least at the checkpoint I can look in my bag and see if it has been cleaned out!!

    LOL.

I do think that it happens more by accident than by design. Maybe a family with multiple carry-on's decides to check one and the ensuing mayhem of moving things around results in one or more electronic items being left in the bag. And that's where Mr. Dovel enters the picture.
