Chicago: Palmer House vs. Fairmont

    Let's say that an exec room at Palmer House runs about what the Fairmont's standard room does, and you're going to an event located between the two (more convenient to the Fairmont). People whose taste you trust suggested Palmer House, though, which appears to be a lovely historic hotel you'd probably dig, especially after its renovation.

    You're unlikely to use exec floor privileges much due to said event (which is at the Hyatt Regency, a hotel I did Not Like), but no lower-category rooms are available.

    You've previously stayed at the Fairmont and loved it, but that was also a long time ago, so it's changed.

    Which would you stay at and why?

    (I've been holding reservations for both....)
