Wat Phra Phutthabat Tak Pha - Lamphun

Wat Phra Phutthabat Tak Pha in Lamphun province is unusual. Wat Phra Phutthabat Tak Pha is constructed on 2 levels separated by a long steep stairway. The stairway is lined by two 5 - headed Nagas and is a steep climb with a spectacular view from the upper level....
Legend has it that The Lord Buddha visited here and left his footprint. His saffron robe was laid out on the rocks to dry and it is said that the imprint can still be seen, hence the name of the Temple. (Tak Pha means to hang out to dry). Both the footprint and the image of the robe are located on the lower level of the Temple. Also, on the lowere level of Wat Phra Phutthabat Tak Pha is a small cave containing images of worship.

    Enjoy the steps!

A temple at the Mae Sai Area in the very north of Thailand -> close to the border of Myanmar
    Image00037.jpg

Its very good to see on this kind of templebuilding that the influence here in the north is much more inspired from Laos, Cambodia or China than from South of Thailand.

Nice pics. I ahve been there many times, even back 6 years ago when you could take pics inside. I'll dig through my stash in the next few days and add some.

I'm up in Chiang Mai right now, and no, not staying at the Downtown Inn. Eating a very nice meal this evening and i remember some pics from 3 years ago.

Ta Pae Gate, mid December, so shortly after Rama IX's birthday.

I'm not sure if this is the right place to post this, but as the dinner was in Chiang Mai, why not. Until there's a more appropriate thread I'll leave it here (and don't want to have an orphan thread just for this).

Tonight I ate at Huean Pen, as I have a few times before. It's a touristy place, but you're just as likely to see Singaporean, Thai or westerners in here.

Dishes are 60-90B for the most part. A small bottle of Singh (and it's pronounced Sing for those of you who care... the 'H' is written in Thai however it's silent) is 75B.

It's located 1 block south of Ratchadamneon on Ratchamanka at the corner of Jhaban.

There is an English sign somewhere, I've seen it. Just don't have a picture of it. The place is very kitchy with lots of 'stuff' all over.

My dinner this evening consisted of:

A northern version of one of my favorite issan dishes, geng naw mai (fermented bamboo in a thick soup)

    IMG_6991sm.jpg

As well as, at the top right, yam naem (salad of fermented pork) and to the left, nam prik gapi (literally water, chili, shrimp paste) and boiled vegetables.

    IMG_6992sm.jpg

The yam naem was just OK, the others were great (and I've had them before). As i was alone this was all i could muster. I really wanted to try two other dishes, one I've had before and one not. But there's always tomorrow.

For desert was gluay buat chi (banana in sweet coconut milk):

    IMG_6993sm.jpg

As my mouth was tingling somewhat from the nam prik gapi the sweetness was a wonderful way to end the meal. Not pictured was the ubiquitous beers. Singh on this night, because they don't serve Leo (a sign that locals don't really go there!!).
