Check In Via Skype At The Four Seasons Beverly Wilshire

    What's your least favorite part about staying in a hotel? If you're anything like us, check-in is a particularly tedious process—that awful time when we're worn out and cranky, and don't feel like answering to anyone or making small talk: we just want to get straight to our room and close the door.

    Luckily, some hotels are willing to speed guests right along and close the gap between first arrival and bed-flopping. Here's a new program being launched by the Four Seasons Beverly Wilshire that ought to satisfy the digital nomad contingent who've got little time to spare, but plenty of devices at the ready: guests that are en route to the hotel, can now Skype the Front Desk and check in with them face to face.

    (Sure, you still have to actually interact with a person, but hey, you're just sitting in a car, so what else have you got to do?


    The program is in its pilot phase, though we wish we were heading to LA so we could test it out.
    While the whole Skyping experience may be foreign to some (we highly recommend it!), the end result here is something that will appeal to pretty much every traveler: quick, seamless, worry-free check-in. Once guests arrive after Skyping the hotel, they simply pick up their key and head straight up to the room.

    No fuss, no muss.

    Once you get to the room, keep in mind that, starting in July, this hotel has graciously offered free basic internet to all guests. Which leads us to our final question: if basic internet is only to be used for "web browsing, checking email and updating social network statuses," then do we have to pony up for "premium internet" in order to keep Skyping with our friends and family?

    Also, what if we really like our Front Desk agent, and just want to keep Skyping with them evenafter we
    arrive at the hotel? Shouldn't that be free too?

    We guess we could simply traipse down to the lobby and chat with them in person, but, then, where's the fun in that?

    I just imagine when people begin to ignore the front desk in the future, of course they badly want one when something goes awry with there stay. It's maybe a new trend, but people shall not forget that a stay is more than just checking in and out, it's what in-between what counts, that's called service and a good check in is only one of the many service experiences a great hotel can deliver to it's valued guests.

    +1 people pay extra for that service. Honestly, there are some FS and RC properties that don't have a great hard product but it's the service that makes them stand apart from their competition.

    Service is and remains for many the "true luxury" in many luxury hotels.:)
