Flying YYZ-ATL-HNL. Flight from YYZ leaves @ 6:15 AM  and flight from ATL leaves at 9:50 AM. When I check in tomorrow morning, I know I can change seats for YYZ-ATL. Will I be able to do the same for ATL-HNL at 6:15, or do I need to wait until 9:50 ? Just trying to get a preferred aisle seat for the 9+ hr flight.

From my experience, you can change seat assignments on most flights 24-hours out. So you can change your seat assignment of either leg 24-hours prior.

With United Premier Silver, upgrades clear day of departure, so there is a gap where you are looking at paying for the Economy Plus upgrade, and getting a free upgrade. I don't know how that translate for Delta. But I think the time of your flights are close enough, that you won't have to worry about not being able to make changes to the seats.

Delta lets you change seats any time you log in, but there has to be a seat available !

Delta requires Miles or Upgrade Instruments for ATL-HNL so no one gets upgraded for free at all.

    "Requires" or "allows" ????

The days of getting free upgrades on long Delta flights, as Detroit Tiger announcer Ernie Harwell used to say, are 'long gone'.

I think OP is trying to get a better seat without paying a fee for it.
