    Hello:

My 1yr anniversary with my Chase Sapphire Preferred card is right around the corner so I called Chase and had my card downgraded to a Chase Sapphire card. The representative who was assisting me ended the call by informing me that Chase is going to send me an envelop that I can use to send it my old Chase Sapphire Preferred card. The representative explained that Chase was happy to destroy the card for me.

I'm seriously thinking of taking Chase up on its offer because I'm sure that destroying the Chase Sapphire Preferred card is a major PITA. Am I risking my privacy for no reason? What did you guys do?

    Thanks!

I've lots of room in my safe for a few of those babies (the UA Club card is the same type). Might be fun to stack'em in there and in thirty years rediscover them and reminisce about the good old times when we actually needed physical cards and earned miles with them.

I saw that too! I think he took a blow torch to it. I don't have a blow torch.

I get the same offer from American Express and I never take them up on it. If titanium is ever valuable I will have a few dollars to cash in.

    Just discard it.

So many people have access to your card number through retail and online spending that the incremental risk from the possibility of someone sifting through your garbage and finding a cancelled card seems pretty insignificant compared to the risk you already accept in life.

Plus, if someone did fraudulently use your card, how much do you think Chase would bill you for?

Had to re-read your post, and then sighed in relief!

My first reading was that they'd offered to destroy your credit score (which, alas, is all too easy these days).
