I was talking to a friend about her vacation. She mentioned that she flew IAH-NRT-SIN, but had to go through Japanese immigration and was charged an entry fee.

Did she just end up in the wrong line, or is there a transit fee for NRT?

Must have been the wrong line - easy sterile transit.

There isn't a transit fee or entry fee that I'm aware of. I transited outbound to ICN last May, and on the way back, had an 8 hour layover and entered Japan, going through immigration, didn't pay a fee either time. I'm not sure what happened with your friend?

  4. I just transited through NRT a few weeks ago. It is seamless and there are no charges.

What country's her passport from? That's the only thing I can think of that would trigger that.
