Can I change my Frequent Flyer program half way through my itinerary? For example if I am flying YVR to SAN, can I credit the Outbound to Air Canada and the return to United MP? I will hit AC 50K after the outbound flight, and I want to switch to United MP on the way back to take advantage of the E+ seats (I have silver). Thanks in advance.

Assuming some period of time between the two, absolutely. If they're on the same day it can pose some potential issues as some airlines post all flights on the same day to the same account but with time in between it should be no problem at all.

Depends on the carrier. Some don't post points until the last segment of a PNR is flown.

Thanks to you both for the responses. I have a week in between the flights, so I will check to see if the points post before changing the number.

Which ones? I've never had that experience.

Southwest, for sure (though not relevant to this thread). UA and AC both do (for this thread), just wanted to add in that caution note for future folks that find this thread.
