First in the domestic YYZ lounge and now in the Domestic YVR one there are cell phone users nattering away in the Cell-Free Zone. Is no place safe from the ignorant souls? Thank goodness the airlines are not permitting cell use in flight!

(Ooops see the thread title is missing the word FREE. Unable to edit thread titles.)

In YHZ and YEG in the last couple of weeks I've seen people talking on speaker phone in the cell free areas.

What I do: Pick up the cell-phone free zone sign. Walk to offender. Place it on their table, in their lap, on the floor. Receive applause from others in the area.

I've never been in these lounges, but I still want to voice my support in this cause. It is a symptom of a bigger problem.

I was a bit more discrete, but yesterday at YVR did move the sign to a more prominent position so the offended could not help but see it...still did nothing. The woman at YYZ on Wednesday was totally oblivious to this reality and just nattered on revealing considerable information that a corporate spy would love to have! There's an area at the SFO RCC which is more contemplative so tends to be more intimidating to those attempting to use cell phones. And the YYZ space in the MLL should be similar. YVR's should be moved into the next section at the end of the lounge, not where it currently is.

Or one could also report their own post... if that is possible.

EDIT: Yep, right by the edit and delete link. ;)

If I'm feeling non-confrontational, I'll point it out to the person at the front desk and let them handle it. If I'm feeling a bit more naughty, I'll try to grab a seat right next to the person who is speaking the loudest and lean over to get an even better listen. Usually, they'll just pick up and move. I'm still waiting for someone to ask me what I'm doing so I can say, "I'm sorry, you're in the cell-free zone, so I just assumed you wanted everyone to participate in your conversation."

you're not looking hard enough!

Although I am against youtube video watching aloud in the lounge or anywhere, I would give a thumbs up in this case. Never understand why people need to be in this area if they are talking on the phone. Personally, I think it would be better to have private booths to carry on convo's, esp if you are discussing business/confidential matters. I have been tempted to take notes and drop them off to the offender, with a caption - "next time, maybe I can send this to your competitors!"

In YHZ there is a nice little "room" (read: closet) that looks like it used to be for computer terminals. Enough seating for 2, and you're out of earshot of everyone else. It's where I go to take/initiate phone calls.

    I need another triple Glenlivet....
