I was wondering if anyone had ordered a special meal on Cathay Pacific when traveling in First Class? Do they use the same special meals for all classes? I am specifically after a vegetarian meal, my wife a vegan meal. Thanks!

I have ordered various variations of veg. meals the last few times we flew in CX F but unfortunately, i have largely been disappointed with the food. The regular veg. meal was quite bland (think steamed veggies, and raw salad). The Indian veg. option on the next trip was definitely better, but still not quite up to the standards of LH or LX F catering. Our most recent trip (in Dec), we opted for the Oriental veg. option, but I didnt care much for that either. I love CX F for the seat and their service, but I have always found the food to be underwhelming. Hope you have better luck!

I'm sorry but I think LH F catering is one of the worst.

To each his own, I guess. I have tried the veg options in both LH and CX F multiple times, and LH has always been superior, in my opinion (although nowhere close to LX).

So I take it the veg meals are the same across all cabin classes? Do they at least plate the food or do they bring out the plastic covered dishes in F?

Is there a way to see the first class menu before the flight? I am thinking of just trying to work around my dietary restrictions (I am ovo-lacto...usually there is a pasta I think).

You would think you could get this from the airline - but in other than that you should find many simlar menus with a google search:
i.e. CX Menu SFO HKG 2013
    https://www.google.com/search?q=CX+Menu+SFO+HKG+2013
or just jump to the flyertalk thread...
    http://www.flyertalk.com/forum/cathay-pacific-asia-miles/1422792-cx-f-menus-2013-a.html

personally I'd just pick an choose across the menu if you have a choice rather than prebooking a potentially questionable meal.

Oh, dont get me wrong. The plating is beautiful. It is only the food that I found sub-par.

Ok so I managed to dig some old pics from my previous trips and it turns out I did take pics of some of the meals in CX F. Hope these help (these were all on ORD-HKG F)

I am really strongly considering picking and choosing across the menu as I generally find the special meals to be less than special. :)

Thank you SO much for the pictures! I am thinking about picking around the menu, but my wife might well go vegan!

We're Kosher - well, kinda! Some Kosher people won't eat anything that does not have certification. We just don't eat meat or shellfish. We did FC in January and faced the same dilemma. I searched the sample menus on FT and decided to take my chances. It worked out for us. We had tortellini for our meal. We also had an omelet and my wife (who definitely gets less excited by this stuff than I do!) declared them to be the most delicious eggs she ever had ?!

My sense is that you have a carry-on. Pack some back-up stuff - you can always eat it at your destination. And do what you can to make the most of their offerings. The good news is that even ovo-lacto can have single malt scotch!
