United Airlines is getting tough on passengers with oversized carry-on bags, even sending some of them back to the ticket counter to check their luggage for a fee.

The Chicago-based airline has started a push to better enforce rules restricting the size of carry-on bags — an effort that will include instructing workers at security checkpoint entrances to eyeball passengers for bags that are too big.

FWIW, it's always amazing, to me, what size bags pax drag on board and try to cram into the overhead. I will however, admit that those old bag size guideline boxes at the gates are way too small and unrealistic. While boarding in CLT last week, the [DL] GA made an announcement that they would enforce the size limit as well. (With those same old, small sizers) Wasn't a RJ either.

The worst thing that happened was when Continental and United merged. The new United is worse than the old United and far worse than Continental was. They are now an airline with an attitude. Oh for the days of Continental and happy attendants focused on the flying customer. It ain't like it was back then, and the clampdown on baggage is just one more of their revenue enhancement projects.
