BMW is about to introduce a very light carbon-fiber I3 running on a lithium ion battery with a small back-up gas engine. Despite a long list of advanced features, the spec's look entirely unimpressive though. The expected range is still only 80-100 miles on a single battery charge, plus an extra 60 miles from 2.4 gallons of gasoline. By comparison, I can squeeze 60 miles on my diesel VW Passat from 1 gallon of fuel. Still the new technology is welcome. I expect other car manufacturers to eventually adopt and put it to better use than BMW.
