    Good Day:

Ordered 4 sets of $900.00 Hyatt Check Certificates on 4/21, 4/22 and 5/7/2011.

Those checks are issued under the certificate code:HG

Instead, today, after a stream of emails informing me of delays, I received 4 Hyatt Gift Cards with no information about their value .

Those Hyatt Gift Gards are not what I ordered and contrary to the Hyatt Check Certificates they cannot be used outside of the USA, CANADA or the Caribbean.

I called Capital One to complain and was told somebody would get back to me within 7 days.

I could not get a case number.

This is really a let down.

Ouch I may be in the same boat, I had a ton of delays and was finally told they (6 orders) shipped. If I cannot use these internationally I will be very very unhappy. And indeed it was not what I ordered either. Definitely checking the mail when I get home from my office.

    Good Day:

    Just called Hyatt.

Two points of difference between what I was presented and ordered ( check certificate) and what I received today:

    1) Hyatt Check Certificates have to be redeemed in full but can be used at Hyatt across the world.

    2) Hyatt Gift Cards do not have to be redeemed in full and you can carry whatever balance is left from stay to stay but as far as usage goes you are limited to the good old USA, Canada and the Caribbean.

This appears to be a bad case of bait and switch and the web site even though it now shows $900 Hyatt Gift Card in the "Events and Experiences" still refers to "certificates".

This is actually more than a let down.

I pasted below the Hyatt Check Certificate terms and conditions still on the Capital One Web Site at this time .

I have made a copy of the page for the record.

I'm still waiting for 3 x the $900 Check Certificates. If they are Gift Cards in lieu of the expected certificates I will be disappointed as it will take us a long time to spend that amount at US properties. We were hoping to be able to use the Checks at our upcoming Asian stays.

When I first applied for the Capital One card I actually had it ranked as our #1 visa card. However now it is on the list to be cancelled when the year is up. I thought their customer service was good, however after they raised the limits on the redemption twice within a short period I realised that it could be a regular change so I could not deal with moving goalposts.

    Good Day:

I understand Capital One may have ran out of the Hyatt Check Certificate even if I do not like it.

However I expect them to be straightforward and try to offer a fair solution/alternative instead of trying to pull a quick one hoping nobody would notice.

There is no real trust left on our side and my wife and I will most likely cancel our cards.

We already experienced a 13,000 points increase in the redemption of those Hyatt Certificates before some of us even had a chance to redeem any points.

Now the Hyatt Certificate has morphed into an Hyatt Gift Card and it tells plenty about Capital One; does not it ?

Mine haven't arrived yet. My redemption history still shows certificates. My plan has been to use them at the Park Hyatt Maldives. I will be very displeased if I receive an instrument that can be used only in the US.

    Good Day:

My redemption history showed Hyatt Hotels Multi-night Stay.

This is the same description as the one listed when my wife was sent her set of Hyatt Check Certificate on April 18th.

It shipped from Fenton, MO 63026.

The 4 Hyatt Cards I received today shipped from Phoenix, AZ 85036 on May 19th .

Oh no! I ordered two of these and they have not arrived yet. I received an email notification saying they were out of them a couple of weeks ago. 3 days ago I was notified that they were being shipped but I have not gotten them yet. I will be bummed if they are not what I ordered! What can we do?

    that's really crappy of them...

keep in mind though if you want, when the year is up you can just downgrade to the free version that just gives 1pt/dollar instead of 2... that is if you don't already have a card you use for no-foreign-transaction-fee...

    Good Day Syphlix:

You have a point when it comes to the no-foreign-fransaction-fee, however the Starwood Preferred Guest American Express card offers a better redemption value when it comes to redeeming points for flights.

On domestic flights booking this is true even when you receive two points on Capital One versus one point on SPG per $ spent.

For example I can redeem today 50.000 SPG point for a round trip in August from the Mainland to Hawaii and back versus 80.000 for Capital One.

But back to the Hyatt Checks Certificates "BAIT AND SWITCH" issue this is just not good business practice not to say anything else.

The award now says "gift card" but the description still refers to "worldwide" and "certificates".

I know it was certificates when I ordered. (The copied text above also says Gift Card.) Did anybody save the page when it said "certificates"?

My redemption history says "Hyatt Hotels $900 Multi-night Stay"

    Good Day:

They have changed some of the wording in the terms and conditions (sloppy job) but forgot to do the same in the product description.

They run this program, under stress, the way a carnival is run.

Hit three pipes and get a doll but if you do, sorry you only get a cookie...

Also, out of respect , please keep this in the Mile and Point forum or at least ask the same questions here since some of you collect the info here and report it on Flyer Talk...Mahalo.

I have plenty of respect for the founders here and for milepoint, and I post in both places. It's not one versus the other.

I posted a link to here on FT and there's been some discussion there. Feel free to participate in both places if you want to, and if you don't want to participate on FT, that's ok too. But don't assume that it's disrespectful to anybody or any site if others do.

Thank you very much and I really hope that's enough of that nonsense.

Thank you very much for posting all this info.

    Aloha David:

We will leave it at that, but why do you ask further questions on Flyer Talk rather than Mile Point when the information comes from Mile Point?

This is my question and a fair one at that.

Although I used to post on Flyer Talk, I cancelled my participation because I did not agree with the editing.

    Mahalo.

It wasn't intentional, except for one question, I was responding to other people's posts after I posted the link to your info.

But I did ask one question there and I will ask it here too.

What about points earning? Does this change anything?

    Thanks,
    David

    David:

    "Merci"

Yes you will get points and stay credits when you pay with the Hyatt Gift Card and any other bonuses available.

It is same as cash as long as you book using Hyatt Web Site posted rates ( AAA and others. No pre-pay, group , travel agents...ect).

Not a bad deal but it is missing the international properties.

Thank you for being a good sport.

    Mahalo.

On the bright side, maybe it makes the redemption a bit easier. I have stayed at about six or seven HPs in recent weeks and almost every time it took 5-10 mins for the FD agent to process the certificates. And each folio I received has them accounted for in a slightly different way. At one property, they even had to call a manager to enter a password. I assume these cards will work just like credit cards, i.e., they just swipe it and charge a certain amount to it.

(of course, that doesn't compensate for the loss of international usage if that's what people were planning to do... me, I don't have any since I didn't apply for the Capital One card)

    Good Day:

Since it looks like most of us will receive Hyatt Gift Cards and not the Hyatt Check Certificates we ordered, one will want to make sure they check the balance available on the Hyatt Gift Card upon receipt since neither the letter associated with the card or the card itself has any indication about the $ value .

Each card however has it's own identification number on the back.

You call 1.866.784.0540, press 2 and enter the identification numbrer followed by the tone (#) " et voila"... $900.00

This may be a stupid question, but .... Has anyone contacted Hyatt about converting to a Gift Card/Check that could be used internationally???

Just wondering since I don't have a dog in this hunt.

Good Day. I was told by Hyatt you cannot buy Hyatt Check Certificates with an Hyatt Gift Card.
