Not sure if this hasn't been asked before. Couldn't find anything in my quick search. Can someone tell me if miles are credited back if I cancel a roundtrip award ticket after flying the first leg of the journey?

For example, if my award is

    A-B
    B-A

    for say 100000 miles
and I cancel the award ticket after flying A-B do I get 50000 miles back if I cancel before the scheduled departure date of B-A?

    Thanks in advance

Officially the published rule is that you do not. That said, if you don't have a stopover or something else which make the r/t a requirement it might work. You also can ask an agent to split it into two one-way trips so canceling the return is easier.
