I know that all the AJAX-y/FaceBook-y/Web6.0 stuff is cool and fun but the performance is pretty brutal on slower connections or a BB device. Any chance of getting something a bit more lightweight for folks who just want the information without all the bells and whistles?

That's what I miss with the mobile version of the old forum. Fast, easy and it did its job well.
I definitely agree and hope for one soon!

Don't worry it's coming....we just have to focus on beta testing and adding contents for now :)

How about RSS feeds (that actually have content vs. just links to the posts) -- is that coming, too?

The mobile FT site (not the iPhone App) is very good.

I have to say it was ... it's a bit slow for me now with the addtl graphics. I liked the barebones version that was there before for use with my bb, esp if I was out of the country with expensive data access

I'm not sure I'd go to "very good" but it is definitely functional and passable. I literally cannot open this site on my BB because I get a "page too large" error. On slower connections (e.g. tethered via edge/gprs/2g) it is pretty painful.

I'm happy to build content but only if I can actually connect to the site. Right now I can barely connect while on the road.

How has it changed? I haven't noticed any differences.

There are two versions, they had them both for a little while but then turned one off. The other was very
    basic and no graphics.

I make it a point not to access FT (or TB or, now, MP) when traveling. It's a vacation from this stuff as well. I will access Expertflyer if necessary, but that's it for travel-related sites.

    Cheers.

Good for you, but my travel is weekly and I don't always have a laptop or cxn other than my phone.

I don't have any graphics in the version I am using (and have always used). I don't think so, anyway. I'll go and check...

Agreed. I find it painfull to post, as it requires at least 3 attempts, with error message boxes popping up (that don't have any visible text). I suspect my company network is attempting to block the extra bells and whistles, but this new site is the one I'm having the most problems with that. It's almost (!) as bad as that evil TripIt.

I like this new AJAX-y goodness here. I suspect the right answer is that we keep this format for the website, but have a WAP-enabled version for mobile devices.

BTW, I'm not on a bb when I get all the errors, but rather on my laptop connected to my company network. There is some stuff causing serious slowdown, or perhaps perceived by my network as questionable.

Probably some of the ad activity ... Amtrak's filter also has choked on some of that stuff

On an Android phone, I find it difficult to use the Alerts popup window. It's sometimes difficult to click on a specific link, and a link underneath the popup will sometimes get selected instead.

I've only started using the Android, but I made a favorite of the unwatched thread page and that let's me see the recent alerts and anything other threads that were updated (it won't show you your point / status accumulation, but I don't care about that)

If a mobile version is going to be developed, can it be optimized so *all* mobile devices can read it?

I've been out of the HTML game for a loooog time, but as a fairly recent (and very happy!) Nokia E63 owner, I've noticed not all "mobile-friendly" sites appear to be equal (if you're not an iPhone/Android/BB user).

Can we meanwhile get at least a text only version? Downloading a single page just to check a PM is like 220K on my roaming BB. Even putting the PM into the mail message would be better.

Yeah, something similar to the wireless version used for the old forum?

I assume that by "old forum" I think you mean we need something like what is used by FlyerTalk.com.
