I've seen some posts the other-way i.e. UA SWUs on CO but not CO issued ones on UA.

I'm thinking of booking a spring trip to ICN and I actually see R availability on UA 891.

I can say this, I do have a half UA metal itinerary already (BOS-MCO on CO, then MCO-BOS on UA) and it WOULD NOT allow me to upgrade it at least online.

So before I even consider booking this I would want to make sure I can in-fact use a CO issued SWU on that route.

    Thanks for your help!

    Hi mht_flyer,
I'm a liitle confused, are your using (or trying) a SWU for MCO-BOS? Kind of a waste if so, but it's your SWU's to use as you like. If using for ICN and you found availability, jump on it now because the NF/NC availablity on UA is just horrible now.
I used a UA CR1 on CO metal and I had to call the 1K line and talk to one of the "transistion team members" to get it switched over from UA to CO and then applied. You may have to do the same the other way around. So when you call CO, ask for their transistion department.
    Good luck,
    John

    Hi AZjohn,
Actually I want to use it for ICN. I was just using a already booked UA metal itinerary as an example (I couldn't use a regional on that route MCO-BOS if I wanted). So I was just thinking if that was the case on that itinerary, would it work on a new itinerary that I may book for ICN.

I know folks have gotten UA SWUs to work on CO, just wasn't so sure the other way around.

But it sounds like I may have the answer -- definitely a phone in type of issue. :)

    Thanks for your help!

Yes, you can, though you have to call in for cross-carrier redemption.

That's what I was thinking. I try to do everything online, but guess I'll have to call in this time :)

Is it still unrestricted as to fare class or W+ like UA-issued SWUs?

CO 2010 SWUs are Unrestricted however valid ONLY on CO Metal

CO 2011 SWUs are W+ and valid on both UACO Metal.

Thanks. Are UA 2010 SWUs valid with W+ on CO metal as well?

CO 2010 SWUs can be converted to 2011 UA SWUs and used on W+ UA metal as well.
    I believe so.
