Can OW Emeralds pre-select seats 1A & 1K in F on awards?

My husband and I are flying BA F in June, and we have added our AA FF #s to our reservation so that our OW Emerald status is "seen" on the reservation.

However, even though Check My Trip shows 1A & 1K open on 3 of our 4 legs, we still can't select those seats.

Should we be able to select these as OW Emeralds? I thought I read that they're open to BA's top tier elites as well as OW E. Am I mistaken?

If you are both OWEs, then these should be available to you for pre-allocation. Ring BA.

OK, I called BA and was told that they are held for "people with infants or the handicapped". Is that a crock? Are (US-based) BA agents usually pretty informed, or do I need to hang up and call again?

    Call again. That's nonsense.

Is there someplace this is in writing that I can point them to in the event I get another winner on the phone?

3 calls, an email, and got the same results each time -- "can't select them", "can't select them". Called the You First number, and they removed our BA FF #s from the reservation -- so now our AA #s (with status) were the only ones affiliated, and bam! 1A & 1K were available for us to select.

Yes, it is important that the status that allows you to choose the seats is in the booking.

In our case, we had both our BA and AA #s on the reservations, but it appears that the BA status was "trumping" the OW status  Removing the BA FF#s did the trick this time.

I had the same problem when booking Avios seats where my BA blue number got put into the reservation automatically. Adding my AA EXP number let me go through to seat selection (and also showed the increased baggage allowance) but, while I was able to select seats, when it came to confirming the selection, the system came back with a message to the effect that I couldn't select them at that time. I think it's some sort of bug in the BA Manage My Booking system.

BPs printed out with the Blue number as well, rather than the OW Emerald.

The solution definitely seems to be to get the BA FF number removed from the booking completely.
