I have seen a couple of post that indicate that I can but all links I have used lead to renting cars with cash not points. What an I overlooking?

Strange... that's the same AAdvantage account that you'd use at aa.com

I just tried it and it works... should show you the mileage on your account and you can then adjust to use more/less miles and cash, if you want to.

Yes, I did that once, with miles out of my wife's account (which didn't have many). Saved me a lot of money because the cash rate was quite high, but for some reason AA had a pretty decent "mileage" rate.

By the way, I checked back then as other airlines offered rentals-for-miles as well, and the prices varied significantly between carriers/programs.

I used it myself for a hotel & car combo in Honolulu last year and it was pretty painless as well. AA and I think Budget/Dollar offer the best combination from what I can remember. Delta has the absolute worst redemption rate -- or at least they did when I used them.

Concur on both... I got a Dollar car (not my favorite, but I take it if it saves me $500) and yes, Delta wanted a ton more miles. Now, perhaps I should have looked at it as an opportunity to dispose of some of my Delta miles, but I still hold out hope to one day have enough flexibility to snag that elusive cheap business class seat to Europe.

Thank you a million times over. For all the years I have been flying AA I didn't realize one could do this. And I was literally about to rent a car.

Further. To this post I just rented a car using miles. Turns out that if you are an elite there is a big discount in the number of miles needed. Such a deal.

I saved about 60% of AA miles on a 6 day rental.

This page locked me out twice and I had to ask for a new password. The second time I used the temporary password and voila, it worked.

    Thanks for the help!
