Long story short, I have to buy a plane ticket for my cousin to come home. I just have to use my credit card to book his flight for a surprise. They don't care about miles. My cheapest options are Southwest and United. My questions:

    1) Can I put in my Rapid Rewards number if I book Southwest?

    2) Can I put in my USAirways # if I book United?

Or will I only get points on my credit card no matter which airline I use? I've never done this before. I've credited my United flight to USAir, but I don't know about someone else.

    Thanks for the help

You won't earn any credit for someone else flying. Sorry.

You will earn the points from the CC transaction on your CC.

If you fly, you get the miles.
If someone else flies, that person gets the miles.
