    Greetings,

I am brand new to the club and just getting my feet wet. My first question is this: Currently i am active duty station on a carrier in the Gulf till Feb 2012. This means i will not be able to fly and earn miles to keep my UA MP P. Loseing my status and starting over again would be unpleaseant thought. So is there anyway i can buy the remaing 11,000 EQM? Or some other program that i am unware of.
Thanks in advance for your help

    Very Respectfully,

    Karl

Call them up... tell them who you are and what you're doing and ask them to assist. I seriously doubt that they won't take your situation into account... it's not like you're out on vacation :)

I'm sure there are other alternatives but I would imagine that there isn't an airline out there that wouldn't consider your situation as a special case. :)

You can buy EQMs directly from Continental and link your MileagePlus account to the OnePass account and get the points you are looking for. It will run you about $1000 right now and the price will mostly go up as the year progresses, but the option is there.

    Welcome to MP, Karl!

Buying sufficient EQM from CO isn't exactly cheap, and I'd recommend looking at what you get for the money. E+ access can be purchased cheaper (annual pass option, for example) and guarantees E+ at booking vs at check-in (you are aware of that benefits change for Premier silver in 2012, right?). Checked bags... You can probably check a lot of bags before you hit the $1000 EQM cost.

Agree. With the new Silver 'benefit' of not being able to confirm E+ at booking other options may make more financial sense. Keep in mind Delta is rolling out economy comfort domestically which should be considered.

    Welcome to MP Karl!

Another option is you can call them up and ask them if they offer any sort of elite challenge. I know in the past CO status matched, but that's changed now and I only know of the challenge if you have status elsewhere.

Thank you everyone, for the great advice. I will ask if the can do a waiver first vice paying. I was not aware of changes to MP Silver. Can't imagine leaving United, but might have to look at other programs if i have to

    Karl,

Welcome to MP! Definitely call MP first before buying miles! :) You never know what they may do for deployed military folks.

If you do end up starting over (hopefully not), we can also assist you in making choices for which carrier works best!

    :)robin

If you've got the United credit card, you could occassionally send flowers and candy to the admiral.:D

Good news is they responded to my letter and waived the requirement for the miles, and gave me MP P for 2012. Thanks to everyone of the great advice.

Glad it worked out - I hope the rest of your deployment goes well!

  16. Try putting them on craigslist. Seriously. I did this an was approached by a company that worked it out for me.
