Last week I took some hard cheese and crackers and a small butter knife in my carry on (which I had pinched from the airline meal I had on my flight out and planned to return on the flight home). At an unnamed airport the knife was taken away. When I said there are plenty of these in the XYZ lounge where i was about to go before my flight, so taking this away from me is senseless. After begin told it was really a dangerous weapon and none were to be found past security I went to the lounge, took a half dozen knives and went back to the same security person and asked if they wanted these knives too. And asked if perhaps they might consider a SWAT team raiding the lounge to collect all the other knives. I was then told they only confiscate butter knives that go through the X-ray machines. With that I took my knives and returned them to the lounge.

They were kind enough to allow me carrying a decorative letter opener through security.. But then in Asia, they sounded the alarm..
