My wife was pre-emptively bumped to platinum. This year she had 41,000 EQP and 31,000 miles. It happened sometime in the last two weeks. I can't tell if this status will last through next year or just te next few months.

Does anyone know anything about more examples of this? Also, would this negatively impact her elite choice for being a gold with 40,000 EQP?

I would assume this relates to customer retention for bankruptcy.

This has been widely reported on a few FFer forums, obviously many popping up on TOBB starting as early as last week I believe. I don't think AA has given an official reason why they're doing this, but it seems targeted to a few specific individuals. As rwoman says, it's probably designed to keep people flying on AA in 2012. Congratulations, and enjoy the gift. :)

I'm going to venture that it would impact her elite choice. But that is pure speculation. My husband is sitting at about 45K EQP and
35K EQM - it sure would be nice if they extended his Plat status. We'd take that over the Elite reward gladly. :)

Nice! Any reports of people getting bumped to EXP? I'm only about 45k miles short :D

Definitely crossed, as I'm 397 EQMs short of Gold. ;)

I would just pony up for the shortest flight you can take if you value Gold status at all. Too much to chance otherwise.

So you just need to sneak off and do some "shopping" one of those days. Just don't mention that shopping is in another city ;)

I got bumped last year - ~70K EQP and was bumped to EXP.

My flying pattern last year was pretty skewed to the second half of the year, so I always assumed they recognized that I had switched from UA in the second half of the year and were rewarding me based on 'run-rate.'

Did you actually notify them you had switched? How would they know?

No, I never notified them. They would not know that it was UA, or I suppose even that I switched at all, but my 'run-rate' had certainly changed.

I was given EXP last year (ie didn't fly enough in 2010 but given status in 2011). I don't recall EQM/EQP in 2010 but it was far short of re-qualifying. I had been an EXP consecutively for several years prior and mostly requal on EQP from flying paid premium class flights. I actually simply emailed AA to see if they'd let me roll over two system-wide upgrades as a courtesy as they didn't clear on a recent flight and they responded with a "No....but" and re-qualified me. This is an example of why I stick with them...
