appreciate suggestions for where locals eat
I was there a few months ago. I wasn't there for local food but I loved
Babel - they do a tasting menu
I very much enjoyed the brunch at the Gelert hotel. Certainly wouldn't say local's fare, but it is a must do again on my list.
The one worthwhile dinner I had that seemed to be "locals" was at the restaurant run by the Hungarian wine society--can't recall the name offhand and it wasn't elegant, but simple food done well and a fabulous list of Hungarian wines to try.
I believe that you are talking about Klassz? One of my favourites in Budapest. But I do not think that they were taking reservations when I was there.
Another place that is nice is Bock Bistro at the Corinthia Hotel.
