With dozens of flights canceled Monday (Jan. 27) ahead of a wintery weather mix in Baton Rouge, the local airport is hoping to resume scheduled flights soon. "There won't be any flights leaving Baton Rouge until around Tuesday afternoon," Baton Rouge Metropolitan Airport Spokesman Jim Caldwell said. More than 30 inbound and outbound flights were Canceled Monday before winter weather descended upon South Louisiana. Caldwell said airlines were contacting travelers as early as Sunday to reschedule travel plans. "Flights were completely packed Monday," as patrons tried to reach their respective destinations. Tuesday and Wednesday travel itineraries are contingent upon the weather, Caldwell said, but the airport will give updated travel alerts on its website as they happen. Those traveling are encouraged to check with their airlines on the flight status before traveling to the airport. According to the Baton Rouge Metropolitan Airport website, "Many airlines are allowing flights to be re-booked and are waiving fees and fare differences provided the rescheduled flights commence by January 31. However, the policies vary by airline." Delta Airlines canceled more than 1,800 flights Monday in cities affected by winter weather hitting the Southeast sections of the United States. Company officials offered travelers the opportunity to make one-time changes to their tickets without a fee if they're traveling through Louisiana, Georgia, Alabama, Florida, Mississippi, the Carolinas and Texas. Replacement tickets must be reissued by Feb. 1, a spokeswoman said. Delta officials expect service to be affected between Tuesday and Wednesday. Winter weather warnings have canceled several Megabus trips across the country and through Louisiana.
