I didn't know where to put this one, as it's not really related to miles, points, or travel. An old friend from high school emailed me this tonight, and wow, what memories it brought back for me.

I hope the link works, and it's a long look at old photos of Brooklyn, starting from the early 1900's to about the 1980's. I was born in Brooklyn a long time ago, and some of the photos bring back some wonderful memories of long ago and far away.

If, like me, you remember those wonderful times of long ago, .....enjoy. And if you've never been to Brooklyn, well....you've missed something wonderful that's just not the same any more.

    Link is: http://www.screanews.us/NewYork/BrooklynOld.htm

So many familiar places and names, now long gone.

Very cool. Lots of great memories even though I am from Queens. Many things are the same.

I wonder if it's related to the Junior's restaurant at 165 St. in Sunny Isles, Fla, that closed a few years ago. Great place for NY style deli food and the sour pickles and tomatoes, and a favorite place to go to after a movie or late date.

Betty, I also lived in Queens for many years, but that was eons ago. A few years as a youngster in Astoria, then to Kew Garden Hills as a teenager, and after spending some years in S. Florida, and a stint in the U.S. Army, back to Flushing not far from Shea Stadium and LGA (and Manhatten...is Manny Wolf's restaurant still there, I heard it had burned down, and it's a shame, they had super Surf & Turf) when I worked on Wall St. and was in the Army Reserves.

The pictures I posted showed some wonderful places that brought back memories of long ago. Coney Island, with the original Nathan's Famous, with their hotdogs and those large fries made in dirty oil. Steeplechase with the parachute rides, boardwalk and Brighton Beach. The BMT line with the express from Manhatten to Kings Highway and Coney Island. Lundy's and Hamilton House for seafood, Dubrow's Cafeteria, Horn & Hardart's, Saturday movies, fabulous deli's everywhere along King's Highway, and a wonderful bagel, bialy, and onion rolls bakery near Sheepshead Bay, where you could smell their rolls from blocks away. '55 Chevy, yep. '57 Ford, yep. Brooklyn Dodgers, yep, until dem bums moved out to LaLa land ("From NY to LA, from LA to...") and they tore down Ebbets Field.....made me a Yankee fan for life.

So many wonderful pictures with so many wonderful memories. But times change, and that was so very long ago and far away! Guess I'm showing my age, but it's true, I'm just an old phart.

"Brighton Beach" makes me think of my trips to the beach in Brighton, England. The old photos were great to see; thanks for sharing.

We've been all over the UK, Wales, Scotland, Ireland, and NI. As far south as Bath, and as far north as northern Scotland, and all over Ireland too, but never been to any of the UK beaches. Too busy driving all over the UK and Ireland's winding narrow back roads and enjoying the scenery and friendly people. Hopefully back for a ten day trip to London and Belfast in September, but this time for casinos in London for a few days then up to Belfast for visits to my wife's family. Besides, for someone like me who grew up in Florida's warm waters, the thought of the North Sea's icy waterside with riparian entertainment doesn't sound like fun.

The beaches in Cornwall are exceptionally beautiful (especially in certain parts of Bude), but that's a bit far south for you to trek. :)

I drive very very fastly! Cornwall and Devon area wouldn`t be a problem, just all those traffic circles everywhwere. But no driving this trip as it`s just to get away for a bit and visit friends and family and a city we really enjoy, London. Looking forward to lots of kippers and eggs and a proper English (LARGE) brekkie.

I'm usually in London every year in September, have been since 2011. I'll let you know if the same trip gets booked again this year (depends on work).

@blackkack-21. I grew up in queens eons ago too. Sad to see so many things change. My dad worked in the garment district when there were still 'pushcarts' moving millions of dollars worth of clothes through 7th ave. that's how I recognize Dubrow's. There was one near where he worked. And I went to St. John's though not the Brooklyn campus. Loved coney island. Did some work at the aquarium there when I was in grad school so would go quite often. Thanks again for the great pictures and wonderful memories.
