Many airlines are said to be trialling the Apple iPad on board their flights as a way of replacing the portable devices that are currently used by First Class and Business Class passengers, to enjoy the in-flight entertainment. British Airways has now been announced as one of these airlines that is said to be considering using the iPad by Apple for on-board entertainment purposes.

The airline has been currently running trials on certain Boeing 777 aircrafts in which passengers use the iPads as an alternative to the typical DVD players that First Class passengers are currently given. This trial comes just before the airline’s plans to refurbish their entire First Class cabin near the end of 2011.

Another airline who has trialled the iPads is Jetstar; the carrier has said they will be implementing the iPad as a replacement for their usual in-flight entertainment device for premium passengers. The introduction of the iPads has been delayed already however, when Jetstar missed the deadline in December last year and again in April this year.

Finnair also began last year offering the iPads for use in-flight to its premium passengers on routes between Hong Kong and Helsinki. These iPads were loaded with content including magazines, newspapers, TV shows, movies, music and games.
