Seems like they offer day tickets for their first / last or second last flight on the day, these tickets are limited and are reduced, but by how much, that's a good question. In the article, they found the cheapest fares for a day return for some cities, but for others it was very expensive. Overall, this depends on the city and the timing, day of the week plus the demand equation must also taken into account. [flexibility perhaps to find the cheapest day return rates]

For a long time, both BMI and flyBE had -0- cost one way tix for the very first and last flights each day, with no need for the daytrip turns. Only charges were for taxes and other fees, and these appear to have been positioning flights in all cases, but they appeared almost daily for some flights we were looking at, such as LGW/BFS or BHD and back.
