Looking at using my AA mileage to book USAirways flights from ORD to FCO. SInce I am booking 7 months out, will I be able to change the USAirways flights without penalty (like AA allows on AA bookings if you keep the same origin and destination but different days/flights)? I have received 2 different answers from AA agents. And, is it always safer to book from a major airport like ORD (rather than a smaller regional airport like PIA) in case you need to change your mileage award ticket dates/times?
    Thanks.

Rules for changes are based on the miles used, not the metal booked. If you use AA miles you get AA rules even if flights are on partner airlines.

Whether you want to pay for PIA-ORD or put it in the award based on changes is a personal thing.
