Trying to use miles for a trip SFO - Paris -Istanbul next summer. Want to be on the phone the exact time seats are released, 11 months pre flight. Since the return seats won't be available, what is the best way to book this? One way at a time? Or wait till the return flights seats have been released?
    thanks,

What makes you think that the seats will definitely be released 11 months out?? That certainly isn't always the case.

Beyond that, if you don't want a stopover at an extra destination along the way then booking as one-way tickets should be fine.

You can also book one way, then when the return seats are available have your one way turned into a round trip (they'll deduct the extra miles at that time). Just did this in fact.

This would incur a change fee of $75, right?

Assuming no status, yes. If you don't need the stopover it is cheaper to just book them as a pair of one way flights.

I had a nice agent. :) Not sure if it would normally, though.

I booked my travel to China into next May when the Singapore Airlines "released" all of their award space. It's one way ticket.

I was thinking of turning it into a round ticket so that I could take advantage of one stopover and one open-jaw. Thanks to Desamo for verifying that is possible.

I don't know that most agents would do it, I just had a super-great agent.

Agents should no problem. The only thing to be careful of is that the agent doesn't much up the SQ seats in the process. More of a risk if it got changed to R inventory from a A380 swap.

Fortunately, I was in biz. I re-checked after on SQ's site, and all my seats were bueno.
