Thinking about booking a weekend in Bogota. Would appreciate information on the safest area of the city to stay in, and any hotel suggestions. Would be interested in medium priced hotels.

I stayed at the Hilton and the area was extremely safe and the rates were quite reasonable. I was also given a nice suite upgrade due to elite status.

DO NOT WEAR ANY FLASHY JEWELRY WHILE THERE.

I don't have flashy jewelry and always dress down abit. Have travelled pretty much everywhere, and always try to blend in somewhat. Cash is minimal never carry much. Don't use ATM's and credit card is used to pay hotel.

If you have enough time and have not seen the salt cathedral ( Catedral de Sal ), I would highly recommend going there. If I remember correctly the drive is about 60 minutes from Bogota to Zipaquira. On the way back a stop at Andre's Carnes De Res in Chia can be a lot of fun, and the food is decent.
