A new contract for Boeing planes will account for $2.9 billion in new engine orders for a GE Aviation joint venture.

On Wednesday, West Chester-based GE Aviation announced that Norwegian — one of the largest discount air carriers in Europe — ordered 100 Boeing 737 MAX with the LEAP-1B engine and 22 next generation 737-800s, which uses the CFM56-7BE engine. Both engines are products of CFM International, a 50/50 joint company between France’s Snecma and GE.
