    Congratulations to both Boeing and the B737 for such a tremendous accomplishment over many years. Millions of flights carrying people from all over the world, many on their first ever airplane. An offshoot of the earlier B707 and B727, with different dimensions and missions, the different B737 models have carried on the proud Boeing tradition for all those years, even outlasting the larger and faster B757's :(, and possibly over time even the larger still B767 and the beautiful B747 which are gradually leaving the airways after many years of service to be replaced by their newer successors.

    Yet this "Baby Boeing" has certainly grown up throughout the years.

    But that's not too hard to correct. Since Boeing is increasing production of the 737's from 42 to 47 a month, and since the dimensions of the B739 and the B757 are not too different, someone should convince Boeing to just make a few easily done modifications to some current production frames to add the distinctive drooping nose and stilt appearing landing gear coupled with the newer larger naceled and more powerful while less thirsty engines to make a new distinctive model called the B737/57-Hybred/ER. ("MAX" is not necessary, since he can't tell the difference anyway). That way the airlines looking for a faster, longer legged and more fuel efficient aircraft with almost STOL takeoff ability for shorter runways at some airports, and for those lightly traveled TATL or similar routes, wouldn't have to shell out the enormous bucks for those newer all plastic type planes to replace some of their older models of larger planes to do the job that only the B757 is capable of completing efficiently, comfortably, and more importantly to those of us who appreciate the distinctiveness of the current distinctive but soon to be retired, B757-200's. Of course the winglets would be a newer, no cost addition to the hybrid model, but I'm sure Boeing would see that as a necessary option to make it more attractive to the very few naysayers still out there.

    See how easy that would be! Someone should go to the Boeing World website to let them know how simple it would be to announce the newer model to an anxiously awaiting public with their ever growing demands for a new airplane.

    And if the auto makers can have their "hybreds" in so many shapes and forms, why can't we all expect an experienced aircraft manufacturer to do the same.

    I'd think a slight conversion of a new B737 frame to a newer model B737/57ER Hybred as someone mentioned above, the newer slightly smaller then a B777 aircraft would come off the lines costing many dollars less then its larger brother, thus making it an attractive option for a mid-range-semi-lightly-traveled-routing plane that the other models cannot fulfill.

    Methinks Boeing is missing out on their opportunity to have another popular aircraft available that would be snapped up by all the airlines looking for diversification yet continuing commonality in their fleets.
