On Monday, May 7, Blue Grass Airport will celebrate National Tourism Week by offering traveling passengers complimentary admission to The Club at Blue Grass, the airport’s business lounge. The open house will run from 7 am to 7 pm and will be accessible to all passengers traveling with a valid boarding pass.

“In appreciation of the one million passengers who fly to and from Blue Grass Airport every year, we are pleased to provide this
complimentary admission to The Club at Blue Grass,” said Eric Frankl, executive director of Blue Grass Airport. “Approximately 300,000 visitors to the Lexington region pass through Blue Grass Airport every year and spend more than $103 million locally. National Tourism Week is a fitting occasion to thank our visitors for their business and the economic impact they provide to the Commonwealth of Kentucky.”

"Blue Grass Airport is one of only six small-hub airports nationwide to offer an airport-operated executive lounge."

    Which are the others?

Most people who come to LEX (Bluegrass Airport) are here for either horses, bourbon, the University of Kentucky, coal, tobacco, or Lexmark. It is a nice little airport that got spruced up whenwe hosted the World Equestrian Games last year. Not a big deal to most Americans but huge in Europe.

The lounge is okay. Have to have actual club membership in affiliated program, e.g AMEX Platinum won't work.

Delta has something like 46% of the flights (off top of head from annual report) with US Air, American, and United having most the rest.

You don't remember when that DL RJ crashed there, killing nearly all on board? This was 6 or 7 years ago.

At the risk of looking stupid...

One million people fly to/from the airport each year. 300,000 visitors to the region pass through the airport. So 700,000 passengers are locals, perhaps?

Or 350,000 enplanements and 350,000 deplanements by locals each year.

I have always found airport stats to sound funny. My own airport says, "Annually, the airport serves more than 1.2 million passengers...." How many times am I counted each year?

Terrible tragedy. As someone with a private pilots license, I got lots of calls on this one. Unfortunately, while everyone wanted it to be something else, it was obvious, from the start, that it was pilot error.

Seems like a good list of airports to know since many are alternatives to large and medium hubs.

Going back to the quote that brought up the "small-hub" question, there are 5 other small-hub airports that also have an airport-operated executive lounge. Which are they?

The MSA has ~400k people. Plus, there are competing airports at CVG and SDF. 700k of "locals" enplanements seems like a stretch.

I have no idea how they count the statistics but will say that it draws a lot of regional traffic from southern and eastern Kentucky. The folks in the south part of state either come to LEX or go down to Knoxville. The only real alternative for eastern part of the state is Charleston, WV.
