BlackBerry to launch newest Bold model in Hong Kong:)

The newest BlackBerry Bold 9900 will be launched across Hong Kong on September 9, 2011. The new model combines a touchscreen and a QWERTY keypad, higher resolution and NFC technology.

The new handset measures just 10.5mm thick, the brand’s thinnest yet, and consists the updated BlackBerry 7 operating system (OS) with a browser that runs up to 100 percent faster than the BlackBerry 5 system and 40 percent faster than the BlackBerry 6 system. The dual system of a touchscreen and keyboard bring together the best of both worlds: while the touchscreen boasts a 640 by 480 pixel resolution, the keyboard is also larger than the current Bold models making working on the go much easier.

Nevermind the fact that they used a photo of a 9000 :)

I've been using a 9900 for a bit now and it's one of the best Blackberry devices ever made. The keyboard is by far the best keyboard ever put on a Blackberry, and the form factor (wide but thin) is actually very comfortable.

The OS changes are relatively minor if you're already used to 6.0 though, and the new hardware seems to be under-utilized.

Overall it's not a bad device, but I find myself going back to my personal Android device when I'm not doing work. I think it's a great Blackberry, but I'm not sure it's going to convert anybody. :)

They are not going to convert anyone from iOS or Android. And those who are switching from a feature phone to their first smart phone will probably look at that device and feel that it looks rather, uh, old-fashioned.

    So yeah, DOA.

Rats. I was hoping this thread was about some fetching young woman being shot out of a cannon.

More buxom chicks in spandex, please.

While I know they don't have the latest and greatest features, I think it's a strong phone to keep the existing crackberry users on the platform. I find my fingers are too big to type on touchscreens, yet navigating some web pages and apps is much easier on touch screens, so it's nice to see both in a nice compact package. Now if only AT&T can start selling it in the US..........

Yeah AT&T always takes forever with their TA process. Verizon already has it on the retail channel, and I believe T-Mo does as well, yet AT&T is saying they won't carry it until November.
