Two weeks ago while boarding UA DEN-LAS I had a disagreement with the DEN gate agent about upgrading my girlfriend (She was ticketed with me but has no status – I’m Prem Exec and was #1 on the upgrade list). I never yelled at nor was I abusive to the agent, but I did ask her to call a supervisor and also called and had the agent speak with MileagePlus on the phone. Short version, MileagePlus took my side, onsite supervisor sided with the agent, and it ended with us deciding to take our original seats.

Last week, flew DEN-ORD….but interestingly, I was nowhere to be found on the upgrade list, but my girlfriend, with no status, was #20.

Might I have been blackballed for upgrades due to my disagreement with the DEN-LAS gate agent? If so, is this a permanent condition, and is there a solution?

This is a new one for me. I doubt UA's IT is sophisticated enough to blackball upgrades. I think they didn't get you on the UG list for the flight. If it happens again, then you might be right.

Just a standard UA ticket....nothing odd or unusual about it. Since it happened only once it might have been a coincidental glitch...guess after I book my next ticket I'll call to be sure I'm on the list, and double check with the agent at the RCC upon arrival at DEN...

I think you're mistaking malice for incompetence.

I'd be surprised to learn UA's IT has the capability to blackball.

No offense to some of the great UA employees that have made my travels more pleasant, but having traveled UA almost exclusively the past 3 1/2 years, you'd think I'd have become accustomed to incompetence!

    Agree.

I've commonly thought malice with UA agents but have found incompetence much more prevalent.

On DEN-LAS were you on the waitlist as of the day of the
flight? It's my understanding that if so, it's every person
for him/herself, even if you are on the same PNR.

If the new CEO can fix just one of incompetence, laziness and mediocrity, he will have the best major network carrier in the US. IMHO.

You can be earmarked unsuitable for upgrade, but as far as that goes, it should only be for one flight.

Did you ask the gate agent why your name didn't appear on the upgrade list?

Good question...I did not ask...arrived at gate just before boarding and did not want to sit apart from my girlfriend, and knew both of us would not get bumped up....

As far as I know we don't have a blackball list for upgrades.

One of the casino hotel properties I worked at had on file a standard form letter politely inviting a customer never to return. If their complaints were well-founded, that's another story. But there were players who were such a headache to have on property that the house would rather lose their action than deal with them.

I think AS may have blackballed me, I am not quite sure as I don't travel on them much to begin with.

I haven't tried purchasing a non-refundable ticket from them since last summer. I bought a few through Expedia.ca, but that was before the they truly dropped the hammer on me.
