Big Changes Coming to Minneapolis-St. Paul Int'l Airport

From restaurants to restrooms, the airport is getting a $4.2 billion facelift. The plan includes upgrading the ticketing level and baggage claim, building 30 new gates, adding 18 thousand new parking spaces.
Airport officials expect to handle a surge in passengers over the next several years. By 2030 they're expecting more than 50 million passengers passing through the airport that compares to a little more than 33 million today.
The airport generates more than $10-billion in economic activity or the Twin Cities every year.

Why doesn't LAX give a crap and do the same. It's a shame. But as for MSP, great news. I've only flown through there twice (and I'm a DL elite!), but both times I've found it less than stellar. Glad to hear they are investing in improvements.

Wonder what the parking rates will look like after the new spaces are added.

I like MSP. Especially appealing is the liquor store / cafe where one can get a decent baguette sandwich, some artisan cheese and a bottle of wine. They have a good selection at (basically) liquor store prices, i.e., a bottle of wine costs about as much as a single glass at United Club down the E concourse. French Meadow and Ike's aren't bad dining options either.

There was a press conference last week at MSP about planned changes:

Hotel to be developed on the airport property. I didn't catch whether it would be connected to T1 (how and where?), but if not IMO it would be pointless. No details on developer or chain were reported on TV news.

    More parking at T1.

    Three more gates at T2.

Generally improved concessions, with no details.

In October, the DL nonstop to HNL will resume.

DL will add jobs at Chisholm (call center).
