My last couple of stays in Manhattan I've been subject to a $25/night destination fee.

This fee has been charged on recent stays at The Maxwell (formerly the W on Lex), and the Marriott East Side.

This charge is sold as a "benefit"....I'm sure I'll miss a couple of the benefits but what I remember are:
    • Laundry credit (useless when checking in at 10 p.m. and checking out at 7:00 a.m. the next day)
    • Internet access (really?)
    • Two "Citibike" rentals per day (perfect for a business trip!)
    • $25 food and beveridge credit in the hotel
As much as I resent the charge, I'm at least going to take advantage of the "benefits" where I can, so made a point of stopping at the hotel bar and grabbing a drink.

On 3 recent stays I reviewed my folio and found that the $25 F&B credit was not applied!

They did apply it after I called - but really how many people check their folio that closely.

Sounds like great margin enhancement on Marriott's part.

    Simple fix.
    Destination charge = Resort.
No business stays are allowed at resorts via company policy.
Therefore, all hotels with destination charges are excluded from the business travel profile and filtered from search results.

Gee... I'm a regular traveler, but I won't ever be able to stay here again. Sorry.

Let's see how long the hotel can hold on with those exclusions.

I hope that in addition to complaining here you are writing to Marriott to let them know how you feel.

Hyatt does the same thing, apparently. Deplorable.
