What is the best SPG hotel in Rome?
Westin Excelior or
not sure which is the best but our stay at the Westin Excelsior was a real delight - grand room and enjoyable location
Westin Excelsior is available now for EUR 224
My property of choice in Rome is the Excelsior.
Hotel Eden is mentioned in a recent article: When in Rome, Do as Josh Flagg Does and Stay at Hotel Eden

Stayed at the Eden about four years ago and it remains the ONLY Starwood in Europe that we have stayed in that didn't give us a wonderful room. Not only did we not get the suite upgrade we had received everywhere else (London, Paris, Brussels, Madrid, Florence, Venice and Athens) but the room was tiny. The website showed other rooms available but they kept maintaining they were "full".
I could not recommend this hotel in good conscience.
I would not recommend the Eden either. I would suggest the Westin Excelsior it's a great property. I've not stayed at the St Regis, but after my experience at the St Regis BKK I'd try a St Regis anywhere I could (price allowing).
I will be the third to tell you that Eden is not worth it...it does have a nice view from the bar on the highest floor, but that is all that is to be desired. I found the rooms dated and the staff not so great. The location is also a bit odd.
I recently stayed at the Westin Excelsior (Dec 2011) and the hotel itself is wonderful. A few things I was not pleased with at the hotel were lack of irons in the room, and the snippy bell hops. Of course, neither of these are deal breakers as the hotel is magnificent, the bar, although overpriced (isn't everything in this city?) is welcoming and has live music on some nights (and good scotch), the rooms (upgraded to an enormous suite) are incredible, and the location can't be beat. So as long as you don't mind either paying far too much to have your shirts pressed or going out wrinkled (I had a business meeting and was none too happy), this hotel is one of my favorites in Rome.
Many Italian properties are on sale - see here: http://www.spghotescapes.com/search/Italy
Stayed at the St. Regis Rome this summer - phenomenal experience!
