You wont find any of those chains with wow pools in nyc

What time of year are you visiting?

    You might consider:
    http://www.hotelgansevoort.com/rooftop-pool/
Or the Mandarin Oriental (not outdoors, but good views)

You are correct and just to add to your post, The other Gansvoort also has a pool, Gansevoort Park. It is bigger than the one down in MPD.
Other options are Dream Downtown and The James Hotel. None of these options will work if you want points or are using them to book your stay.

I guess you guys have never been to Le Meridien, which has a great pool with terrific views out over Central Park and the city, and is part of Starwood. Have a look at photo #13 at http://www.parkermeridien.com/photo_tour.php

Now, they are doing some renovation work there and that might include the pool area, so get in touch with them and ask about that for when you’re planning on coming.

The Peninsula also has a nice one.

The Pen has a very nice one...and adjacent bar up there, which is nice.

I've been to the Parker Meridien. While the pool has park views, it doesn't have any wow factor - it is just an indoor pool. The outdoor pools at some of the downtown hotels do.

If you stay at the Parker Meridien and you value your privacy, make sure to close the curtains in your room. I used to have board meetings in the building to the immediate south of the hotel. More times than I care to recall, I would innocently look up from my papers and saw things (body parts, body parts doing things with others' body parts) that at least some would prefer to keep private. We finally drew the shades at the beginning of our meetings on the north side. (This is good advice for most hotels in Manhattan!)

sounds like you have a cool job, to me!

...not looking for any wow factor.....though a view is always enjoyable and relaxing ....but just looking for a pool more than 10 ft long where i could do some laps early in the morning. trying to avoid these things:

Pool area is nice. Rooms are small. Welcome to NYC. ;)

I also believe that the pool area is adults-only after mid-morning so that could be nice.

the james has just a rooftop plunge pool....looks nice for hot city summer happy hour dip with cocktail and a view but thats it.
i'll be there memorial day weekend.
so far mandarin, le meridien and mariott brooklyn bridge seem best bets

The Parker’s pool is 40 tt., I think. And while outdoors is nice, not so much in the wintertime.

Pulling the shades/drapes is always a good idea in NYC hotels and apartments.
